Dining with the Dietitian
I love when restaurants give you the option to mix and match your ingredients to make a customized meal (and in this case a sandwich). Enter Which Wich, an innovative yet simple sandwich concept that focuses on 50 varieties of “wiches.” Fortunately for me, San Diego now has three locations (over 90 locations scattered across the U.S.).
Once inside, you’ll realize this is not your typical sub shop. Pick a brown bag from the wall under the category of sandwich you would like (such as chicken, turkey, vegetarian, etc.), then grab a red sharpie and start checking off the ingredients you want to add. So far, my favorite combination is the Turkey Wich on wheat bread with caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, cucumbers, bell peppers, olive salad, oregano and garlic. Anytime I can add garlic to a meal I am in heaven! And more research is showing that herbs and spices (like garlic) have added health benefits. More info on this emerging research to come in an upcoming Cuisine Connection email.
While you wait for your sandwich, take a minute to peruse the sandwich bag artwork along the walls. Feeling inspired? Grab a bag and a sharpie and get drawing! The restaurant LOVES to display the bag doodles.
Which Wich is a natural fit for Healthy Dining. With the multitude of ingredients, there is something for every taste bud and healthy lifestyle. There are even special Wiches for the kiddos.
So, the next time you’re craving a sandwich, be sure to visit Which Wich!
Ps – if you’re in Texas or Seattle you can even order online!
